“43” Documentary Wins CALABARZON Film Fest
Southern Tagalog Exposure (STeX) is humbled to receive recognition for the documentary, “43” in the recently concluded PELIKULTURA: The 1st CALABARZON Film Festival at the University of the Los Baños last February 26.
The film bagged the Festival’s Best Film, Best Director and Audience Choice awards all for the documentary category, respectively besting other entries in the region.
Directed by STeX, in collaboration with the Anino Shadow Play Collective and Defend-Southern Tagalog, the scathing documentary exposes the torture of the 43 health workers who were illegally arrested and detained by the military after being suspected to be members of the New People’s Army. The lives of the detainees who became victims of state persecution also illustrate the grim malady of the health sector and the epidemic of political infirmity plaguing the country at large.
Pelikultura is a pioneering regional film festival organized by UPLB’s Pelikulab-SAMASINING and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Our sincere thanks to the organizers of Pelikultura 2011 and those who supported “43”!
